UNIT65 is a ceramic studio in Seattle, Washington where everything is handcrafted by me, Kelsey Ayala. I previously worked as a stylist in New York, where I craved a more tangible creative outlet. That's when I discovered the captivating world of ceramics and the endless possibilities nerikomi and colored clay had to offer. I did a work exchange program at the studio I was a member at, where I learned everything I needed to know to operate my own studio. When the pandemic hit, all my work as a stylist stopped indefinitely and I luckily had ceramics as a hobby to keep me sane. After making the leap to Seattle and entering parenthood, I set up my own ceramic studio out of my garage, allowing me to create a business that allowed me to be creative and spend time at home with my daughter. My studio and work draws inspiration from things like life experiences, traveling, and rock and roll - showing the diversity of influences that can shape art. Clays are made from scratch and colored by hand before drying them out and marbling meticulously into patterns. Every batch tells a unique story and no two pieces are alike. The only thing more fun than creating is sharing my love of art with others!
